Needle
A wooden beam that temporarily supports a section of wall above an opening before a permament RSJ or lintel is installed.
Newel
The largest stout post supporting a staircase handrail at top and bottom. Also, the central pillar of a winding spiral staircase.
Noggin
Horizontal reinforcing timber fixed between the vertical studs in a stud partition wall, and those fitted between floor joists.
Nosing
A stair tread with a rounded edge that projects beyond the riser below.

A sealing ring included in a compression plumbing fitting.
