The most popular tile sold is the 4¼” square wall tile, however current trends are leaning towards larger tiles which can create a more professional end result. The larger a tile is, however, the harder it is to lay perfectly as very flat walls or floors are needed. You may require more adhesive with which to level out uneven walls.
As water expands when it freezes, porous or unglazed tiles can become cracked if they undergo frost. When considering tiles for external use, always use water-resistant tiles as this will also ensure they are frost resistant too.
Just like tiles, grout also offers different levels of water absorption. When grouting tiles for a wet area, such as a bathroom or kitchen, use a rubber-like grout with a silicone or polyurethane base.
