Earthing
A connection to the earth or ground in an electrical circuit; also a terminal to which this connection is made.
Eaves
The edge of a roof that overhangs beyond the walls beneath it.
Efflorescence
Powdery white salts crystallized on the surface of a wall as a result of moisture evaporation. A good indicator of current or past damp.
Elbow
A right-angled joint used to carry pipework round corners.
End grain
The surface revealed after a piece of wood has been cut across its fibres.
Engineering brick
Particularly strong,dense and frost-resistant type of brick, often used as a damp proof course in older buildings and in underground or highly exposed locations.
Extension lead
A length of electrical flex for the temporary connection of an appliance to a wail socket.
