Built In Hobs
Introduction
'Built in' hobs do not have to be located immediately above or beside the oven(s), this can therefore make for flexible working spaces in your kitchen.
Hob formats
Most hobs have four burners, configured with one large, two medium and one simmer ring. These are most frequently laid out in a square although more unusual layouts can be found up to 90cm (35½in) wide.
Built in hobs with five rings are also now widely available, and often these will fit into the same worktop hole as a four ring hob.
Most recently, some manufacturers have developed a modular system of mini-hobs, each of which carries a gas burner, a ceramic ring, a griddle, a deep fat fryer and even a barbeque. These can then be collected in any combination.
- Standard dimensions are 58cm (22¾in) wide x 50cm (19¾in) deep.
- Five ring hobs are usually 80cm (31½in) wide, but can be up to 1000cm (40in) in width.
- Each mini-hob measures approximately 30cm (12in) wide x 50cm (19¾in) deep.
